Students, laundry specialists and mills from around the world came together to develop the Sustainable Denim Wardrobe, a collaboration initiated by Lenzing to create a denim lifestyle collection that encourages ecologically conscious consumption.

Focused on offering timeless styles made with long-lasting quality fiber, the sustainable collection aims to counter the disposable mindset of fast fashion. The wardrobe showcases Tencel and Lenzing Modal branded fibers across a number of categories, including wovens and knits, casual and formal, women’s, men’s and unisex.

By promoting sustainable fashion apparel consumption in this way, the Lenzing team is addressing a contemporary problem. “There are many facets to sustainability in textile apparel,” said Michael Kininmonth, Lenzing project leader. “It is possible to choose responsibly produced fibers and fabrics and it is possible to choose responsible laundry processes. Now, beyond that, it is also possible to address the consumption of fashion garments.”

Eleven fabric mills around the world participated, including: Bossa, Calik, Candiani, Imatex, Kassim, KG Denim, Martinelli Ginetto, Mozartex, Orta, Unitin, as well as seamless knits developed by Santoni.

Students from Valencia College of Art and Design assisted with design. Jeanologia provided laser, ozone, e-Flow and EIM measurement software.

“This is our most ambitious garment collection yet,” said Tricia Carey, Lenzing director of global business development for denim. “We have created a collection for casual capsule dressing that uses a broad cross-section of our fibers in a broad cross-section of styles truly representing lifestyle dressing.”
