The all-American uniform is getting a fresh look this spring.
Premium denim brand 3×1 and Nike have partnered on a capsule collection featuring two iconic products: the Nike Air Force 1 and the 5-pocket jean.
The collection, launching on May 24, includes three colorways of Air Force One (AF1). 3×1 created two selvedge fabrications for the AF1 line with Japan’s Kuroki mill. Both fabrics boast a special Bowerman Orange selvedge ID in honor of Nike’s co-founder, Bill Bowerman. In addition, the left shoe of each colorway uses Bowerman Orange for the articulation of 3×1’s customary back pocket “selvedge reveal.”
Washes for the fabrics were developed in Los Angeles, with options include a light vintage-inspired stonewash with marbling, a medium vintage stonewash with marbling and a washed black. The raw indigo version uses the backside of the fabric for contrast.
In March, WWD reported that the collection will also include three limited-edition 3×1 jeans with Bowerman Orange details throughout the construction. However, 3×1, which has teased the collaboration on social media, has not released any details about the jeans.
Nike and 3×1 share many commonalities. Along with having stores on New York City’s Mercer Street, the brands have been pioneers in personalization and collaboration. In January at the Japan Textile Salon in New York City, 3×1 founder Scott Morrison said the concept for 3×1’s bespoke business was inspired by Nike’s customization platform, Nike ID.
The sneaker collection will be available through Nike’s SNKRS and SNEAKRS apps, from select global Nike retailers, and at 3×1 in New York City and 3x1denim.com.
