Acne Studios Taps NBA Player for Second Collaboration

One year after featuring NBA player Russell Westbrook in its Spring 2019 collection, Acne Studios announced a capsule collection incorporating the athlete’s personal style.

The 10-piece collection includes men’s outerwear, oversized shirts, jeans and shorts influenced by Westbrook’s aesthetic of throwback statement pieces. Garments include a turquoise matching set featuring a half-zip pullover with one large center pocket and coordinating slim-fitting jeans. The collection also includes a light-wash denim set consisting of an oversized button down with black buttons and a matching pair of baggy, oversize shorts.

Westbrook teased the capsule at the Acne Studios men’s spring 2020 show in Paris before it launched on Monday.

“Acne Studios is known for their denim and their different washes, and I wanted to do something almost with an old school vintage vibe,” Westbrook said. “The designs are a combination of what I like to wear all the time, more fashion statement pieces and updated looks from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Those long, slightly oversize denim shorts—that’s how I used to wear them.”

Westbrook’s fashion experience stretches beyond collaborations. In Fall 2017, he launched his own clothing line, Honor the Gift, which sold out within the first 24 hours it dropped. Since then, he’s launched additional collections, collaborated with other brands and furthered his relationship with fashion.

The enviable style of NBA’s hottest stars has influenced fashion and sales off the court, peer-to-peer resale platform Poshmark found. And retail decision platform Edited crowned the NBA sports’ “most fashionable league,” as A-listers sit front row at fashion week or even strut their stuff on the catwalk.

The Russell Westbrook x Acne Studios capsule collection is immediately available at select Acne Studios stores, as well as its website and the High Snobiety website. Prices range from 280 euros ($310) for a pair of shorts to 550 euros ($610) for jackets.
