Signed by more than 9,500 participating companies from 160 countries, the UN Global Compact has a multi-year strategy to drive business awareness and action in support of achieving sustainable goals by 2030. The compact is founded on 10 principles, spanning protection of human rights and labor, to the development of eco-friendly technologies.
Archroma formally pledges to support and promote the UN Global Compact’s 10 principles, which fully aligned with the company’s sustainability policy and code of conduct.
“Archroma shares the UN Global Compact goal to contribute to a more stable and inclusive global market and help build prosperous and thriving societies. We also believe that advancing the cause of sustainability is an ongoing effort, and that being a participant to the UN Global Compact will help us to walk further down this path and to convince those in our sphere of influence to join along,” said Alexander Wessels, Archroma CEO.
In four years, Archroma has made inroads in cleaning up the denim industry’s chemical and dye practices. The Switzerland-based company introduced Advanced Denim technology, which uses a more eco-friendly generation of concentrated sulfur dyes instead of indigo.
Meanwhile, the first denim line made with Archromas’s patented EarthColors dyeing technology launched late last year. For the collection, G-Star Raw partnered with Archroma to develop a new color range using non-edible waste products from agriculture and herbal industries.
