Artistic Fabric and Garment Industries (AFGI) continues to enhance its sustainability initiatives.
The Karachi, Pakistan-based mill announced Monday its state-of-the-art denim factories are now certified LEED Gold through the Leadership in Energy and Enviromental Design program. The mill scored the highest rating points in Pakistan to date.
LEED certification ensures electricity cost savings, lower carbon emissions and healthier work environments.
Last year AFGI’s other flagship manufacturing facility received LEED silver certification. The certification program by the United State Green Building Council (USGBC) assures that “no matter where a LEED project is, its certification is an achievement in green building that’s recognized around the world.”
Maintaining LEED certification is part of AFGI’s multi-prong approach to sustainability. The fully vertical mill also utilizes water and chemical reducing manufacturing practices, and is an innovator in green garment finishes and fabrics made from post-consumer waste clothing and plastic bottles.
