Artistic Milliners Begins Construction on Eco-Tech Unit

Artistic Milliners’ latest development to enhance the mill’s capabilities is underway. The mill broke ground on a new garment factory in Karachi, Pakistan called Eco-Tech Unit. The factory will incorporate the latest design and technology designed to improve production performance, guarantee environmental safety and human comfort.

The 400,000-square-foot factory, which will bring 3,000 new jobs to the area, will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery that reduces carbon emissions, saves energy, improves water efficiency and creates healthy living and working environments compared to traditional buildings.

Artistic Milliners, which brought the first LEED certification to Pakistan in 2014, says the Eco-Tech Unit will be another LEED certified facility.

The facility’s laundry machines will employ a liquid ratio 20 percent less than what is required by conventional machines. The facility is also designed to recycle 100 percent of water waste through a biological waste water treatment plant and has the capacity to recycle 75 percent of the treated water. The center’s dryers will recover exhaust air heat for reuse, cutting steam consumption by 20 percent and electricity use by 18 percent.

“Today, we are investing in infrastructure and technology because tomorrow we want an industry that is organically linked to its social and environmental settings,” said Murtaza Ahmed, Artistic Milliners managing director. “Buildings like this and our existing facilities are a manifestation of Artistic Milliners long term vision to go beyond checklist of compliance and embed sustainability in all its operations, through and through.”
