Berto Opens New Sustainable Plant

Berto Industria Tessile is working toward broader sustainability with a new plant in Bovolenta, Italy and eco-friendly processes associated with it.

The new plant possesses 29 energy efficient looms, which compose about 60 percent of the total machines. The machines will result in a reduction of 81 tons of CO2 annually.

There are sustainable approaches to processes in the plant overall. The facility possesses a high-efficiency air handling unit that has led to a 50 percent reduction in the consumption of electricity and water. This is equal to annual savings of about 5,000 m3 of water and 475,000 kilowatts per hour. In addition, the Matex Eco Applicator by Monforts allows for an exact amount of chemicals and water to be used in the finishing process, also contributing to liquid and energy savings.

Berto has replaced all lighting devices with LED lighting systems, resulting in a reduction of energy consumption of 98 tons of CO2 per year.

The plant is adopting special chemicals in dyeing and sizing to contribute to energy saving and the reduction of CO2. Additionally, Berto is eliminating chemicals like red dye that are potentially toxic or troublesome for the workers.
