After a period of on-again, off-again announcements, Berlin-based trade show Bread & Butter has declared its own demise.

Though the show filed for insolvency last December, it was bolstered by a positive response during Berlin Fashion Week and a cash infusion from online retailer Zalando in June. Despite these positive responses, coverage of Bread & Butter, held July 7-9, revealed that the show was usually quiet with a fraction of the normal exhibitors and attendees.

A few days after the show, Bread & Butter issued a short press release, that said, “Thank you for your friendship, your honesty, your loyalty and in the end, your understanding. Thank you for 14 wild and wildly intense years.”

In a statement to Denimhunters, organizers said, “Bread & Butter as we all knew it is dead. What will happen in the future is up to Zalando, but they already announced that their plans go in the direction of a fashion festival that is more consumer targeted.”
