Bread & Butter, the innovative trade fair event for contemporary clothing, has cancelled its event in Barcelona this winter. Due to fashion industry and retail skeptics, it has decided to hold the event as usual at the former airport, Berlin-Tempelhof in Berlin.
Karl-Heinz Müller, president of Bread & Butter, said, “In numerous talks with the decision makers of our fashion industry it became clear that in the current market situation they rather prefer to stick to the established format, despite the appeal and the possibilities of the new. At the moment, most of the exhibitors are focused on the healthy and reliable German market.”
The trade show will take place from Jan. 19-21, 2015, paralleling many other fashion events occurring in Berlin. Müller made it clear that he is regretful and apologetic for the cancellation, telling the press, “I would like to thank Fira de Barcelona and the City of Barcelona for their willingness to welcome us back once more with open arms. As I have expressed many times: In Barcelona, we will always feel at home.”
Müller is not sure if or when they will hold an event in Barcelona in the future, raising the idea that a summer event in Barcelona may be more advisable. However, the show organizer hopes to bring to Berlin the numerous Spanish and Southern European brands that have already registered for Barcelona—and good thing. Those additional brands will be needed, as the January edition of Bread & Butter will shrink from being a five-hall show in July 2014, to just one. Instead of being showcased in segmented grouping, all 200 brands, including Crocs Footwear, Nudie Jeans and Nobis, will be housed under a single roof.
