Are Skinny Jeans Causing Health Problems?

Skinny jeans have more enemies than the boyfriend jean.

The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) now says that the skinny staple might affect your health, according to an Australian news outlet.

“I am always surprised at how many of my patients are unaware that their clothing and accessories can affect their back health and their posture, and equally how many decide their outfit-choice outweighs their pain,” BCA chiropractor Tim Hutchful told “Some of the most popular items of clothing can have a hidden health impact…some more unexpected items like skinny jeans can also wreak havoc – they restrict free movement in areas such as the hips and knees, affecting the way we hold our bodies.”

The issue stems from restricting movement, ultimately causing a loss of “bounce,” in one’s stride and natural shock-absorbing qualities found during walking, creating join pressure, according to Hutchful.

Jeans are not the only item to get a bad rep by the BCA. The group also warned against high heels, stating that in a poll of 1062 people, 73 percent suffered back pain after wearing high heels and backless shoes.
