Merging fashion and sport, Champion Athleticwear has tapped into the talents of three directional designers curated by the Capsule Show to create Champion Select, a limited edition line of men’s and women’s athlesiure styles for Urban Outfitters.
The collaboration brings to life a modern interpretation of the Champion brand as envisioned by prominent independent fashion designers, Timo Weiland from New York, Craig Green from London and Wood Wood from Copenhagen, each chosen for their unique design aesthetics. Each of the designers began their process by visiting the Champion archives for inspiration, and selecting their favorite fabrications to use for their capsule collections.
The result is a three-part collection inspired by the designers’ own memories and interactions with the iconic sports brand. Weiland plays into Champion’s retro styling with a hooded, banded sleeve sports jacket, a black tennis dress and lightweight shorts for women. He adds a bespoke touch to men’s blue sweatpants with black tuxedo striping. Green from London blurs gender lines with tunic tops and skirts for men with tonal matte and glossy athletic stripes across the front. Wood Wood re-imagines a men’s traditional coaching jacket and toys with women’s yogawear with a logo bra top and slim shorts.
Champion Athleticwear design director Carla Mota said, “It has been a pleasure to collaborate with three of the hottest designers from around the world to create these limited edition pieces that embrace Champion DNA, interpreted through the individual designer lens.”
The Champion Select collection launched Monday in select Urban Outfitters stores in the United States and Canada, Space Ninety 8 in Brooklyn, as well as Urbanoutfitters.com.
