Citizens of Humanity Partners with LA Tattoo Artist Dr. Woo on Face Masks

The face mask has become the symbol of the times, and L.A.-based Citizens of Humanity has embraced the new normal in a way that reflects the essence of the denim brand.

Always one to push style boundaries, Citizens of Humanity announced a partnership with tattoo artist Dr. Woo on a non-medical-grade face mask featuring his signature fine-line design. The limited-edition mask is covered in a minimalist spider pattern and is sold with the artist’s coconut oil-based bar soap for $25 or on its own for $16. The “Wear Your Mask, Wash Your Hands” set comes in black or white, and is available on the Citizens of Humanity website.

Citizens of Humanity, however, wasn’t always about making a creative statement with protective face masks. The brand first shifted its production to masks as part of a large-scale initiative to offer protection for essential workers at the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. Since then, it has supplied masks to hospitals, health care workers, essential workers, farmers, food companies, markets, advocacy groups and government offices in California and Washington, D.C.

Several weeks ago, Citizens of Humanity joined a slew of other denim brands making face masks for the public, offering a set of five for $25. The set includes an assortment of black, raw denim, washed denim and tan colors.

The Dr. Woo-designed mask is the first of a series of artist collaborations the brand has in the works. Adult and children’s masks are set to drop later this week in partnership with another soon-to-be-announced local artist.
