Designer Jason Wu’s feminine yet relaxed aesthetic has won him accolades and a roster of high profile fans, including Michelle Obama and Meghan Markle. However, for denim, Wu is turning to Scott Morrison’s brand, 3×1, for expertise.
The premium denim label teamed up with Wu to develop a Spring ’19 denim range for his eponymous sportswear brand. The nine-piece collection combines Wu’s design signatures such as geometric paneled pieces and angles inspired by New York City architecture with 3×1’s attention to fit, fabric and wash.
“Scott and the 3×1 team have amazing expertise and know-how in denim and I am personally a fan of their jeans as part of my own wardrobe,” Wu said in a statement on the 3×1 website. “I felt that this would be a great collaboration because the denim provides a nice, sportif contrast to my aesthetic which is inherently very feminine. I also love the fact that we are two American brands joining forces to create a collection that’s very special.”

Highlights include a long white stretch denim skirt with navy contrast stitching and a midnight blue wash pencil skirt with a front slit. The jeans assortment boasts a slim denim trouser with a wide elastic gathered hem; super high-rise slim white jeans with black contrast stitching; and a multi-panel slim jean in dusk blue. Laser destructed hems add visual interest to relaxed fit shorts.
Comfort stretch fabrics from Candiani, Cone, Isko and Orta are used throughout.
The creative partnership with Wu was a natural fit for 3×1, which famously invites customers to customize jeans at its SoHo atelier.
“3×1 has always been about artistic collaboration, as we have always invited people into our process. Creating their own unique denim pieces through our custom made, bespoke programs or partnering with retailers to cater to their clientele—that is what we do,” Morrison said. “This Jason Wu collaboration is an incredible opportunity to share our process with our collective brand fans and with our wholesale partners around the world.”
The collection will launch March 1 and is available for pre-order on 3×1’s website. Retail prices range from $225-$325.
