Diesel kicked off Pride celebrations in New York in retro jet-set style.

The brand hosted a rollerskating-themed party last week at the TWA Hotel, the revamped former terminal-turned-hotel (and time capsule) located at JFK airport.

The event’s stylish guests included actors Jamie Chung, Bryan Greenberg, “America’s Next Top Model” coach and judge Miss J Alexander, blogger Anaa Saber and others, who danced along to music from iconic New York house luminaries DJ Todd Terry and DJ Junior Sanchez. The new outdoor roller rink located on the tarmac outside the hotel served as a stage for entertainers, who performed a choreographed roller-skating dance for partygoers.

TWA Hotel is a popular destination for nostalgia-craving fashion brands. It was the setting for Louis Vuitton’s 2020 Cruise runway show in 2019 and the backdrop for a Cole Haan ZeroGrand Fall ’15 campaign.

Diesel has been nostalgic for pre-pandemic intimacy. In February, Diesel launched its “When Together” campaign centered on reunited lovers clad in denim. The racy depictions of love in a post-pandemic world reflected the brand’s inclusive stance on self-expression. It’s a message carried out in a Pride collection it describes as “louder, prouder and more fluorescent than ever.” Spanning jock straps, thongs and racy bathing suits, the collection is emboldened by bright colors, risqué cuts and rainbow-colored camouflage prints.

The summer party followed Diesel’s presentation of the Spring/Summer 2022—its first with designer Glenn Martens at the creative helm. The collection fuses nods to Diesel’s heritage with Martens’ high-concept approach to fashion design.
