Donwan Harrell Exits PRPS, Mattia Donadi Named Creative Director

PRPS founder Donwan Harrell quietly left the company he created 16 years ago.

WWD broke the news this week that Mattia Donadi has been named the brand’s new creative director. Donadi, who previously worked as the senior director of product R&D for Helmut Lang, on-boarded in February 2018 shortly after Harrell existed PRPS. Donadi is also the founder and creative director of Odds, Ends & Common Goods, a consulting studio that specializes in leather and denim products.

PRPS launched in 2002 as a men’s premium denim line. The label has expanded into sportswear in recent seasons, while keeping its selvedge denim collection under the moniker PRPS Noir.

The Spring ’19 collection will mark the first collection under Donadi’s direction. The collection will be on view this month at Liberty Fairs in Las Vegas.

Harrell appears to have another denim project in the works. After leaving PRPS, he subsequently became “The Creator” at Artmeetschaos, according to his LinkedIn profile. His wife and former head of marketing for PRPS, Jarayra Harrell, also left the company to join Artmeetschaos as “The Brain.”

Since July 1, the @artmeetschaos Instagram account has teased followers with a series posts with the hashtags #selvedgedenim, #14oz, #womensfashion and #streetwear. The abstract images and videos show denim fanny packs, logos tees and baseball caps.
