Filson Collab Strengthens Connection Between Fashion and Nature

After shutting down rumors that it would close its Washington-based production facilities next summer, outerwear company Filson debuted a new collection that reaffirms its position in the growing category.

The label tapped packable furniture brand Helinox for a limited-edition lineup of outdoor equipment, marking their second partnership together.

The collection features the Helinox Sunset Chair and Table One Hardtop, outfitted with strong and lightweight DAC aluminum alloy frames, resin hubs and 600D polyester fabric in gray camo and “flame orange” colorways—a palette trend forecasters say defines post-pandemic fashion.

“Following the success of the first Filson x Helinox collaboration, this refreshed collection features pops of color inspired by the fall foliage in our Pacific Northwest backyard,” said Neil Morgan, director of marketing at Filson. “The collection’s modern and portable design offers our customers the perfect camp furniture for their next adventure.”

The Made in America brand’s focus on outdoor equipment mirrors consumers’ growing interest in nature. Trend analytics firms have pointed to its popularity since the start of the pandemic, when socially distant outdoor activities were some of the only safe relief people could get from the isolating lockdowns. Nature has inspired pandemic fashion trends as well, with earthy tones and functional garments on the rise.

Just before the pandemic, Filson branched into denim for the first time, offering a three-piece collection of men’s jeans made with Italian and Japanese selvedge denim. With casualization trends now sweeping the globe, the category was another win for the heritage outerwear brand.

Despite honing in on all of the most popular categories, Filson experienced pandemic-related hardships, and in August laid off a number of workers across its manufacturing, customer service, repairs and returns teams within its Seattle and Kent, Wa. facilities.

The Filson x Helinox collection is now available on the Filson and Helinox websites and ranges from $195-$230.
