The Amsterdam-based company recently launched a men’s and women’s collection made with the C2C Certified Gold Melfort Denim O, a lightweight fabric with an irregular slub character and nap texture inspired by jeans from the 1950s.
The 100 percent organic cotton fabric is dyed in a vibrant red cast indigo derived from RFTPi-Raw for the Planet Indigo, G-Star’s dye process that uses 15 percent less indigo, 70 percent less chemicals, no salts, and produces no salt by-product during the reduction and dyeing process. Consequently, the process allows G-Star to save water and leave behind clean and recyclable water effluent.
G-Star developed the clean indigo dyeing process in 2017 with its chemical partner DyStar and mill partner Artistic Milliners.
Melfort Denim O is the brand’s eighth edition of C2C Certified Gold fabrics. In partnership with DyStar and Artistic Milliner, G-Star was the first brand in the world to bring the C2C Certified Gold denim fabric into the market in February 2018 under the name Kir Denim Organic. One year later, the partners have introduced the world’s first Cradle to Cradle certified gold denim fabric with stretch.
Melfort is available in a washed version and in a distinctive raw denim version, finished with white stitching.
The collection includes the men’s Arc 3D Slim jacket, the Tripe A Straight jeans and the Grip 3D Relaxed Tapered jeans. The woman’s range offers the new Revynn Ultra High skirt, the Tedie Ultra High jean and the C-Staq 3D Cropped Boyfriend jean. The collection retails for $130-$230.
