Guess Throws Back With ’80s Inspired Capsule Collection

Denim’s returning popularity has been helped along by the trend in vintage denim, as brands like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger release lines inspired by the ’90s.

Guess is the latest heritage denim brand to call back to its roots with Guess 1981, a men’s and women’s capsule collection. The line will hit stores in November.

The women’s 1981 collection reinterprets brand designs from the ’80s and ’90s in modern styles with new fabric and wash technologies. The line is rooted in high-waisted skinny and baggy jeans styles available in washes that range from indigo to black. To give the line an authentic vintage feel, the denim fabrics are predominantly rigid.

The brand plays with unconventional jackets, including a cropped shirt jacket with a logo-embossed back and a ’90s style jean jacket with white leather panels. Other highlights include the pairing of a tailored black denim bustier with a long line denim vest done in the same fabric.

Complementing the denim, Guess brought in vintage, logo-centric tees, tanks and boxy cropped sweatshirts.

For the men’s side of the capsule collection, ’90s workwear was a large influence with slim taper carpenter jeans in light to medium vintage washes alongside grey wash skinny jeans. The line also includes shrunken Sherpa jackets and oversized denim jackets with logo embroidery. The collection also incorporates logo tees in rose, mustard yellow and burnt orange.
