Holiday Looks from American Eagle Outfitters

Rivet's 2020 Denim Circularity report takes a deep dive into how the global denim industry is plotting its circular future amidst a worldwide pandemic.

American Eagle Outfitters’ take on holiday denim combines grunge with elements of Scandinavian comfort.

The teen retailer previewed its Holiday ’17 collection in New York on Thursday, revealing a deep range of denim, including jeans, skirts, button-down shirts and jackets.

Distressed jeans are a mainstay in both the men’s and women’s collections, with styles spanning rip-and-repair and gaping knees, to slashes and dramatic frays. Men’s jeans were presented rolled up for a tapered silhouette or with deep cuffs.

The brand adds trendy touches to women’s, including lace-inspired patches and hints of shading. A faded black jean jacket makes a statement with lacing down the sleeves. American Eagle continues to put a lot of weight behind the Mom jean for women. However, the brand scales back on DIY-inspired motifs like scribbles and novelty patches.

Instead, the company embraces the “hygee” or cozy fashion trend. Color denim include washed gray, dusty rose and winter white. Meanwhile, jean jackets are lined with shearling. A broad range of puffer jackets and velvet bomber jackets enhance the comfy look for women. For men, the brand keys into the laid-back trend with flannel tops, hoodies with minimal branding and a range of track pants and joggers.
