International Textile Group (ITG), owner of Burlington Industries and Cone Mills Corporation, announced the founding of the Carlisle Cotton Company. The new company will produce cotton fabrics that range from shirting to bottom-weights for jeans and rugged casual styles.
The Carlisle Cotton fabrics are made in the U.S. at the Carlisle Finishing plant in Carlisle, South Carolina, the namesake of the cotton company. The fabrics are also dyed and finished at the plant, which has been in business for more than 60 years.
In addition, many of the fabrics in the collection are woven at Cone Denim’s White Oak mill in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Carlisle Cotton fabrics are designed to be versatile and come in many different constructions and finishes, ranging from heavy-weight ducks, twills and canvases to luxury brushed cotton spandex blends and sulfur and pigment piece-dye fashion for the jeanswear customer.
There are also styles available for lightweight, breathable uniform fabrics; brushed, no-wrinkle cotton twills; and everyday shirtings.
Performance innovations for the collection include Burlington Lab’s moisture-wicking, stain resistance, anti-microbial and insect repellant technology. The line also includes Varablue from the Cone research division, a proprietary yarn pre-treatment combined with a special Carlisle dye process.
In a press release, Senior Vice President Burlington Apparel and Uniform Dennis Gilrain said, “We’ve been able to combine the R&D expertise of Burlington Labs and Cone 3D to bring new styling and innovation to cotton and cotton blended fabrics. By customizing these technologies and their applications we are able to create unique performance and aesthetics in cotton.”
