J Brand Launches Extended Sizing for Spring ’20

From new denim constructions, weights and washes to the steps global mills are taking to reduce impact, Rivet's SS23 In Season Look Book: Denim & Trims has everything you need to know for a successful denim season.

The premium denim brand known as the creator of the skinny jean is the latest to offer inclusive denim.

J Brand announced this week that it will extend its women’s sizing from size 32 up to size 38 for a capsule collection of its most iconic jean fits. The goal, the Los Angeles-based brand stated on its website, is to be “including, not excluding.”

To develop the capsule, J Brand did more than add larger waistbands to existing styles. The brand took into consideration the pain points of female denim consumers and cut the jeans from entirely new patterns that were “perfected over hours of fittings on real women’s bodies.” Additionally, the jeans are made from cotton blended with fibers like lyocell and elastane, which allow movement while enhancing curves.

J Brand rolled out four new styles of inclusive jeans up to size 38, with more on the way.

The initial collection includes the Alana, a cropped high-rise skinny; the Maria, a high-rise skinny; the Ruby, a cropped high-rise cigarette; and the Natasha, an extreme high-rise. Washes include the vintage blue Lovesick, the washed-out black Vanity, the acid grey wash Infidelity and more.

“This is about body empowerment, not modification,” J Brand stated.

The new sizes are currently available on the brand’s e-commerce site. The jeans will roll out to J Brand retailers later this month and retail for $189-$278.
