Jewel tones, leather and modern interpretations of denim suiting are among the bold autumnal looks that can be found in premium denim company J Brand’s new collaboration with London-based designer Michael Halpern.
The Fall 2020 J Brand x Halpern capsule collection merges colors, patterns and textures ranging from coated denim, to reptile print and patent leather for a series of stand-out looks.
The collaboration was a natural fit for J Brand, which has previously worked with emerging designers and fashion figures such as Bella Freud, Kozaburo Akasaka and Christopher Kane. The collection combines J Brand’s premium and sustainable fabric—each denim piece features sustainable elements or uses the brand’s exclusive Eco Wash techniques—with Halpern’s retro glam style.
The collection falls right in line with the growing demand for leather and leather-inspired statement pieces. The nine-piece collection includes a full-length patent leather trench coat with balloon sleeves, a green leather snake-print blazer and matching high-rise flare trousers, which are nods to Halpern’s favorite decade, the ’70s.
A “sky high” skinny coated denim jean with a button fly; a high-rise skinny coated jean with fringe down the side of the leg, and a two-tone high-rise skinny jean punctuated by metallic coated gold and bronze, maintain the collection’s disco inspiration.
Denim pieces include a high-rise kick flare with a waist sash, a pair of dramatic flare jeans and a matching fitted denim blazer.
“This collaboration has given me the opportunity to express myself in a way I haven’t previously,” Halpern said in a statement. “It was so exciting to be able to use such incredible materials, like J Brand’s brilliant eco foil denim and embossed leather snakeskin, to create a capsule collection epitomizing the Halpern aesthetic: true glamour whilst kissing classic Americana.”
The collection is available now on the J Brand website and in stores. Retail prices range from $278-$1,598.
