Jeans for Refugees Gets a Royal Endorsement

Johnny Dar’s Jeans for Refugees project has seen celebrity supporters like Ryan Gosling and Victoria Beckham donating jeans for a good cause, but the designer’s initiative just got a royal touch.

Her Highness Jawaher Al Qasimi, wife of Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, ruler of the UAE’s Sharjah emirate, has shown her support for Jeans for Refugees by becoming an official patron of the initiative.

“It is an honour to welcome Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi as Patron of the Jeans For Refugees initiative,” said Dar. “Her Highness’ work with refugees is a true inspiration and we are delighted to be collaborating in response to the biggest humanitarian crisis our time.”

Jeans for Refugees is a global artistic collaboration dedicated to helping refugees around the world. With A-list stars that include Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Sir Elton John, and Eva Longoria, the JFR initiative has inspired 100 celebrities to donate a pair of jeans to the cause. The garments are to be redesigned by Dar, and will then be auctioned with the proceeds from the sales going to the International Rescue Committee.

“We will be jeopardising the world’s future if we treat the current refugee problem as someone else’s crises,” said HH Sheikha Jawaher. “Their suffering will continue to give birth to several global difficulties and dilemmas, which, if not addressed collaboratively, will eat into society’s foundations and threaten our very existence.”
