Lenzing Invests in USA Fiber Plant

Lenzing announced Tuesday the investment in a new fiber plant with production capacity of 90,000 tons in Mobile, Alabama, to begin operations in the first quarter of 2019.

The news of the Alabama plant’s opening comes after expansion plans for Austria and Great Britain. The new fiber plant aims to increase the share of specialty fibers as a percentage revenue to 50 percent by 2020.

Currently, Lenzing has a worldwide production capacity of 222,000 tons per year of Tencel fibers. With the addition of the Mobile plant Lenzing will be able to increase capacity by 50 percent. Some deciding factors in the investment of the new plant are the positive energy costs as well as the setup of the plant.
