Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh is continuing to introduce progressive policies at Levi’s, announcing Monday the expansion of its parental leave program.

Effective Dec. 1, all Levi Strauss & Co. hourly and salaried US employees with benefits, regardless of gender, will be offered up to eight weeks of paid parental leave. The paid parental leave benefit will be in addition to existing short-term disability benefits for birth mothers.

The company said in a statement that the change reflects the company’s approach to a work/life balance that “reflects the changing personal and professional needs of the modern workforce.”

“The intent of this new policy is to provide our new moms and dads with greater work-life balance and create opportunities to fully experience the incredible milestone that comes with expanding one’s family,” said Bergh. “We know, and research has proved, families do better when parents are able to have the support and flexibility to cherish these important moments.”
