Levi’s pulls inspiration from everywhere, including different eras, musical artists and various forms of pop culture. And now, it’s pulling inspiration from “a galaxy far, far away.”
The denim brand is collaborating with the Star Wars enterprise on a Fall/Winter collection that celebrates the iconic film’s 40-year history. The saga is set to conclude with its “Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker” debuting in December. Levi’s is marking the moment with a co-branded clothing line featuring themed graphics and recognizable movie quotes.
The special-edition collection will be available starting Nov. 1 in men’s and women’s, and features denim jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts and long-sleeved and short-sleeved T-shirts.
Standout pieces include a women’s denim jacket covered in stars and the words “In a galaxy far, far away” on the back; a second women’s denim jacket that features a colorful movie scene with eight of the main characters on the back; men’s black jeans depicting recognizable Star Wars spaceships; and a men’s denim jacket in the same spaceship print.
The collaboration is far from a random pairing. Jonathan Cheung, Levi’s senior vice president of design innovation, noted that Levi’s and the Star Wars enterprise actually have a history that many fans may not expect.
“Lucasfilm and Levi’s are San Francisco neighbors. When we found out that the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga was coming at the end of 2019, we bundled up our Jedi and headed to Lucasfilm looking for Droids,” he said. “And here’s a barely known, fun fact: Luke Skywalker was wearing Levi’s in the original trilogy—white Levi’s! Now it’s our turn to return the compliment with Vader, droids, Chewie and Leia.”
