Levi’s latest collaboration with “the godfather of street art” comes on the heels of its Levi’s Haus Miami popup at Art Basel.
The brand worked with Futura Laboratories, an artist whose real name is Lenny McGurr, to turn his iconic “Pointman” work—inspired by the movie “Alien”—into a limited-edition capsule collection. The graphic is widely celebrated throughout the streetwear scene, and has been made into figurines and sculptures.
The Levi’s x Futura Laboratories range features a Trucker jacket, 501 jeans and a white T-shirt reimagined with his signature artwork that emphasizes the heavily distressed denim with an equally muted palette of red, blue, black and white. Worn separately or together, each piece is covered in colorful graphics of Pointman’s hands coming from their outer edges.
Futura’s hip-hop roots and preference for early ’80s street art make him the ideal designer for a streetwear collaboration like this one.
The collection will be sold exclusively in China and at the Levi’s Harajuku store in Tokyo in honor of Chinese New Year.
Another brand joining Levi’s in the Chinese New Year celebration is Diesel, which recently launched a limited-edition collection drawing attention to the Year of the Rat. Its collection includes men’s and women’s jackets, T-shirts, hoodies, jeans, knitwear, sweatshirts, underwear and accessories, all featuring a unique rat graphic.
