Levi’s Extends Plus-Size Collection for Women

When it’s deliver-or-die, supply chains become the lifeblood of a company. To that end, the fashion industry has embraced technology to navigate today’s hyper-complicated supply chain, with myriad solutions shaping the first, middle and last mile. Call it Sourcing 2.0.

Levi’s announced Friday the launch of a plus-size women’s tops collection set to debut this fall, as well as the addition of popular styles in plus-size.

The collection offers Levi’s popular western shirts, boyfriend-fit and popover tops and the Levi’s logo T-shirt—the top seller in women’s right now. The 711 Skinny Jean will also be available in plus-size starting this fall.

Levi’s says the plus-size collection, available at Levi’s stores and retail partners, Levis.com and Amazon, has no up-charge.

“Our plus-size line is finally a head-to-toe expression, and I think that is really going to speak strongly to the consumer,” said Kim Casazza-Cutts, Levi’s merchandising assistant for women’s tops.

According to Levi’s, even though more than 65 percent of the U.S. population is a size 14 and above, plus-size clothing only makes up 17 percent of sales across the U.S. apparel market.

Brands are catching on. RWN by Rawan launched earlier this year with a line designed specifically for the plus-size market. Meanwhile, brands like Warp + Weft and Good American offer inclusive sizing.

“Meeting the needs of our consumer, women of all shapes and sizes, is our top priority,” said Kim Angle, Levi’s merchant for women’s bottoms. “It’s disheartening to see how little choice is out there for this consumer when she represents the majority. It is important for us to recognize this and be advocates for change in the fashion industry.”
