Levi’s and Justin Timberlake teamed on a project that brings together their love of music and community.
As part of the Levi’s Music Project, the denim brand partnered with Timberlake to enhance Stax Music Academy, a South Memphis, Tenn.-based music institute that trains young artists on music theory, composition, business and leadership.
Through the collaboration, Levi’s and Timberlake established “The Song Lab,” a remodeled facility complete with all of the equipment needed to create and produce songs. Items were donated by Guitar Center, Gibson, Native Instruments, Shure, Universal Audio and Korg.
Timberlake, a Memphis native, surprised students with two days of songwriting and performance workshops and helped them hone their songs in preparation for a performance in front of friends and family. Timberlake also created a $100,000 scholarship fund for the facility and worked with Levi’s to develop a songwriting program for 30 students.
Timberlake is the latest artist to partner with the Levi’s Music Project to bring music education resources to the next generation of musicians. Since 2015, the project has helped fund the arts and worked with artists such as Alicia Keys, Skepta, Rosalia, SZA and Snoop Dogg.
“Learning how to write songs taught me about myself,” Timberlake said in a video spotlighting the project. “I’m so grateful to be able to come back here and share that with them.”
This is not the first time Levi’s and Timberlake worked together. Levi’s teamed with the musician for “Fresh Leaves,” a Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 collection that put on outdoor spin on Levi’s iconic pieces. Their Fall/Winer 2019 collection recently launched, featuring the 502 taper fit and hybrid sherpa Truckers and other reimagined iconic pieces. The line, which retails for $78-$380, is available at select Levi’s stores and on the Levi’s website.
