Gamers will love Levi’s next nostalgic collaboration.
On April 1, Levi’s will drop a special men’s and women’s collection that pays homage to Super Mario Bros, the gaming franchise released by Nintendo in the ’80s. Levi’s announced the special collaboration on Twitter on March 10, a day known as “Mario Day” in honor of the popular video game character.
The collection puts the game and its characters front and center. The collection includes a Trucker jacket with Super Mario patches, and a hooded sweatshirt with a colorful design featuring the game’s characters: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser and Princess Peach. The same print is adapted into a women’s matching denim set with a cropped jacket and shorts, and slim jeans for men.
The collection also includes a pair of overalls—Mario’s signature outfit—embellished with three coins collecting into the back pocket. Other pieces will include tote bags, banana slings, bandanas and billfolds.
To draw some playful hype, Levi’s teased the partnership on Twitter earlier this month, when it posted a looping video of the two logos and a spinning coin that often appears in the game. The caption showed a jeans and mushroom emoji with the words “Coming soon.”
This is far from the first time Levi’s has gotten creative with its partnerships. In October, the brand collaborated with the Star Wars enterprise on a Fall/Winter collection that celebrated the film’s 40th anniversary. Just a few months earlier, the denim label similarly celebrated Hello Kitty’s 45th anniversary with a women’s and girls’ collection of streetwear-inspired denim, tees and hoodies.
