Singer and “Marry Me” and “Encanto” star Maluma can now add designer to his multihyphenated title. The 28-year-old Colombian star, who has 21 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart and collaborations with artists such as Madonna, Shakira and The Weeknd, debuted his first-ever apparel collection exclusively at Macy’s.
Royalty by Maluma is “an exploration of the musician’s lifelong admiration for the artistry, and magic of high fashion plus furthers his mission to bring indelible style to his community through accessible collections,” according to a release.
Known for wearing bright colors and printed sets, Maluma was recently named the new face of Versace Man. “Maluma’s impeccable sense of style and inclusive commitment to celebrating the beauty and sexiness of everyone, whoever they are, made him an ideal partner to collaborate with,” said Durand Guion, Macy’s Fashion Office vice president.
The line offers a fluid design concept that allows consumers to mix and match between the women’s and men’s assortments and taps into current trends like cutout details, bold pops of colors and coordinating knits. Versatile pieces include raw-edge sleeveless tops, T-shirts, a printed robe and short-sleeve button-down shirts—some trimmed with beading and others with tropical and paisley prints inspired by Maluma’s hometown of Medellin.
“Royalty by Maluma is a unique blend of my Latin culture and my love for fashion, with stylish wear-anywhere looks that are versatile for a night out or every day,” Maluma stated.
Key women’s items include wrap dresses, cutout bodysuits and wide-leg jumpsuits. The men’s collection offers short-sleeve sweaters, chino shorts and French Terry sets. Denim items include a tie-dye bralette, jacket and shirtdresses for women, and men’s relaxed pleated jean shorts, blazer and trench. Acid-wash jeans with chain hardware have stage presence.
The debut range retails for $39.50-$179 and is available now on Macys.com and in select stores. It is the first of multiple drops in the collection.
Royalty by Maluma was designed in partnership with Reunited Clothing, the New York-based design, merchandising and production agency behind Macy’s other celebrity and influencer collections, including lines by Olivia Culpo, Nina Parker and Becca Tilley.
More recently, Macy’s bowed a bar III collection of dresses, oversized blazers and bodysuits with celebrity designer and television personality Nicole Williams English who stars on the reality series “WAGS” showcasing the wives and girlfriends of professional athletes. In January, the retailer’s private label brand, Jenni, dropped a collection created with Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos, TikTok and Instagram influencers known for modeling the same outfit on two different body types in their viral videos.
