Madewell Launches Denim-Inspired Unisex Fragrances

Madewell is honoring its denim roots in its first fragrance collection.

This month, the retailer introduced four exclusive perfumes, called Indigo, Chambray, Sedona and Beau. For the collection, the brand says it worked with experts in the field to mix up the four original “and magical” scents derived from natural oils and essences.

Indigo, the signature scent in the collection, was made for everyday wear—just like a favorite pair of jeans. The versatile, unisex scent blends the warm notes of sandalwood, amber and musk against Italian bergamot and ginger.

Beau pairs palo santo wood with coconut, white flowers, leather and cedar. Madewell describes the fragrance as clean, neutral and “perfect for you and your ‘beau’ to share.” Sedona has a summery feel. The unisex scent combines citrus-y neroli, bergamot and orange blossom with French lavender, orris and honey. Light and soft, the women’s scent, Chambray, is a combination of lily of the valley, delicate freesia and iris absolute noble. Madewell describes the scent as one with “tomboy edge and girly flair.”

The “Made in USA” scents retail for $65. The fragrance collection is the latest in a string of new products from the J.Crew-owned brand with an emphasis on unisex and men’s. Madewell made its foray into men’s fashion last fall with a 38-piece, denim-heavy capsule collection. And in February, the brand introduced its first line of unisex skate-inspired sneakers last month.
