Mavi & Orta Anadolu Launch Fundraiser for Indigo Turtles

Indigo turtles still have a friend in Mavi. The denim brand partnered with Mediterranean mill Orta Anadolu for a second consecutive year to support the Ecological Research Society’s Indigo Turtles Project.

For Summer ’16, the duo launched a line of men’s, women’s and children’s Indigo Turtle Project T-shirts. Every purchase of a Mavi Indigo Turtle T-shirt safeguards the lives of 10 baby sea turtles and makes a contribution to the Mediterranean basin. The T-Shirts will generate resources to protect 15,000 hatchlings in 400 nests. Adult shirts retail for $28 and are available on Mavi’s website.

The Indigo Turtles Project aims to protect two species of sea turtles native to the Mediterranean, Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas, each of which have existed on Earth for 110 million years. The project kicked off last year when it enabled 15,000 hatchling turtles to reach the relative safety of the sea.

Only 40 percent of hatchling turtles reach the water and only one in 1,000 survive. By helping sea turtles reach the sea, the Indigo Turtles Project creates awareness while making a difference.

Mavi and Orta are taking a hands-on approach to show their support. From June to September, Mavi and Orta employees are joining hundreds of university volunteers in Belek, a town on Turkey’s southern Mediterranean coast, to help hatchlings climb out of their nests and reach the water.
