McGuire Denim Designer Marianne McDonald is expanding her strong roots in blue jeans, to include sportswear in her Fall ’16 collection.
The expanded collection includes a line of T-shirts made with brushed cotton for a new type of comfort. The T-shirts also feature original stylistic details, like a two-pocket tee, referencing the early ’80s punk era.
McDonald came up as part of the premium denim boom, joining the industry in the early 2000s with Joe’s Jeans. Since then, her L.A.-based brand has cultivated a cult celebrity following from the likes of Kourtney Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. Now, McGuire Denim fans will be able to dress in the brand head-to-toe.
McDonald said that the inspiration for designing sportswear was rooted in experimenting with other casual fabrications to complement the denim. Gradually adding items like twills, linen and cotton-based chambrays, to which buyers responded really well.
This gave McDonald, a self-described “girly girl,” the opportunity to explore the ruffles and feminine details that she loves. “Our aesthetic really is about that heritage denim meets a glossy, feminine side,” she said.
Across the board, McDonald said that buyers have really responded to the line. “You definitely see a degree of people wanting a specific look from different brands. And I think because there are so many options in fashion, anytime you can offer a look that’s distinctly a specific brand’s style, that’s really appealing for them,” she commented.
The entire McGuire Denim collection will be sold as part of Nordstrom’s Brands on the Rise, and the T-shirt line will be available at Club Monaco. The collection ranges in price from $90 for tees up to $220 for jeans.
