Mother Denim Introduces Moccasins with Minnetonka

Premium denim brand Mother and heritage footwear brand Minnetonka have partnered to launch four limited-edition styles inspired by the bohemia and the free-spirited attitude of the ’70s.

The collection includes the Lovin Moc, a brown suede moccasin embroidered with a psychedelic design; the Cosmic Moc, a black suede moccasin with star, sun and lightening bold embroidery; and the Supernova boot with suede fringe and a blazing star design.

“We liked the idea of mixing handmade ’70s designs with an authentic heritage shoe brand,” said Tim Kaeding, Mother creative director and co-founder. “The colorful embroidery was inspired by handmade stitching that you might find on a lost sweater or jacket in your mother’s closet. The metallic designs are a celestial take on glam rock reminiscent of the glory days of NYC Mac’s Kansas City,” he described.

The shoes launched Monday and are available on Motherdenim.com and Minntonkamoccasin.com. The collection retails for $95 to $110.

Minnetonka has a history of collaborating with designer brands. Previously, the moc brand has teamed with Rebecca Minkoff for a rocker chic collection, Opening Ceremony for a line of glitzy holiday slippers and with the French label Maje for a line of tall fringe boots.

“We always look to collaborate with brands who align with our free-spirited approach to living and bring innovative ideas to our product,” said Minnetonka CEO David Miller. “We love that the Mother styles are reminiscent of our hippy heyday yet are edgy and contemporary, giving our fans a bold way to wear their favorite heritage styles.”

Mother Denim President and Co-Founder Lela Becker has a personal connection to the footwear brand. “I used to live in Minnetonka slippers as a kid and have always been a fan. When we were approached for a collaboration I felt an immediate connection. I love bringing our cheeky Mother personality to their throw-it-on classic American style,” she said.
