When it comes to comfortable denim, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Mugsy Jeans founder and new dad Leo Tropeano said the “timing is right” to expand the brand into children’s wear.
“As Mugsy expands its audience, we’re finding more and more young dads are joining the ranks—including myself recently—and in the last year, we’ve had a ton of requests for kids’ jeans,” he told Rivet.
The children’s collection includes straight-fit jeans offered in two of Mugsy’s most popular washes for men’s, the Fultons, a dark indigo wash with natural fades, and the Beans, a soft gray wash. The jeans are made with the same super-stretch denim fabric as the men’s line for kid-friendly flexibility.
“Everything we do here at Mugsy is built with our ‘look good, feel good’ mentality, and the kids’ line definitely lives up to that standard,” Tropeano said.
Jeans in children’s sizes 12M-18M, 18-24M, 2T, 3T, 4T and 5T will be available starting in early November. The collection will retail for $58.
The children’s collection lands at an opportune time. Mini-me product ranges are gangbusters during the holiday season when consumers are searching for gifts with a sentimental “aww” factor. It’s a merchandising strategy adopted by brands spanning Levi’s and Gap to Gucci and A Bathing Ape.
The brand, however, already has ambitions for what’s next. “We’re optimistic the kids line will be a hit this fall, and we have a bunch of fun ideas for kids’ styles we plan to launch in 2021,” Tropeano said.
