Nike Adds a Customization Element to New Denim Air Force 1 Sneakers

Custom denim first showed up in jeans and jackets—and now it’s branching out to sneakers.

Nike unveiled a new version of its Air Force 1 Low with interchangeable denim Swooshes, allowing the wearer to style the shoe according to their denim preference. The men’s iconic sneaker comes with detachable black and light blue denim Swooshes, as well as a natural Vachetta leather version. The white leather sneakers are embellished with black denim on the heel tab and a block of Vachetta leather on the tongue tag.

Custom denim has swept the industry in all forms, with retailers such as Zara and American Eagle being challenged to include personal touches to their denim without slowing down production cycles. Nike’s Air Force 1 Low denim iteration makes personalization as simple as swapping out a swatch.

Denim has been the fabrication du jour for Nike as of late. The brand teamed with premium denim brand 3×1 in May. The men’s capsule collection combined the iconic looks of the Nike Air Force 1 with the character of 3×1 denim. The Air Force 1 “Denim Pack” was made with two selvedge denim fabrications developed by 3×1.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low, $110, is available online and in select retailers in men’s sizes 6-17.
