Orta & The Vintage Showroom Design Apocalyptic Denim

Thank you for joining Sourcing Journal & industry leaders at our SOURCING SUMMIT NY, as we discussed the most pressing issues of the day. View the Summit on demand through Jan. 2, and stay tuned for the upcoming Companion Report.

Denim from the past inspired Orta’s latest capsule collection for the future. At Denim Première Vision in Barcelona, the Turkish denim mill unveiled a collaboration with The Vintage Showroom from London called “Future Hunter Gatherer”.

Living up to its name, the collection presents head-to-toe apocalyptic denim gear designed by Douglas Gunn and Roy Luckett, co-founders of The Vintage Showroom. The duo culled inspiration from rare utilitarian and military pieces in their extensive archives. Orta reinterpreted the garments for the future using its technical denim fabrics, including stretch chambray, super stretch denim and Tencel blends.

Highlights in the collection span avant-garde styles like a 2×1 coated twill jumpsuit and a trench coat made with 13.5 oz. rigid heavy natural twill, to more commercial ideas, including a blended sateen weave bomber jacket, a Tencel and linen parka and a 6.5 oz. chambray button-down shirt.

Future Hunter Gatherer is part of Orta’s nomadic vision for A/W 2017-18, a story that presents denim-clad travelers connected by advanced technology and remnants from the past.
