Eastern European Time Machine

This new take on relaxed urban style is based on Eastern Europe’s take on all-American sportswear, including authentic denim, orange peel looks, stonewash and chalky green casts, albeit with modern standards for comfort.

Styling includes tucked in logo T-shirts, skate style (Dickies pants), long shorts and track pants with a wider silhouette for men. Women’s looks are tomboyish with slouchy boyfriend jeans, workwear inspired by deadstock and boxy shapes.

Gray denim, spanning recycled gray weft for vintage looks to salt-and-pepper effects as seen by Italian mill Canadiani to textured knits, becomes the foundation for a number of looks—a homage to the region’s architecture and skies. Urban white, or chalky concrete shades of white, and layered ecru denim make an appearance in women’s workwear-inspired garments. Black stitches add contrast. Here, Trotman said mills are exploring non-denim fabrics with chino treatments and traditional gabardine. The result is a cleaner take on workwear with oversized pockets and exaggerated silhouettes.

For grittier looks, denim blends are scrunched up, dry, baked and crushed to create highly textural 3-D effects. Crocking comes through. Square weaves for a ripstop effect in nylon and cotton bases, mainly for joggers and popover jackets, are important to theme’s athletic story. Super bleached laundry treatments are used for prints and patterns. Trotman noted Tencel and Jeanologia’s chambray collaboration “Tencel 24: Day to Night” as a strong example of the bleaching effects that can be created by laser. Likewise, laser burn outs and all-over needle-punching are essential to the trend’s call for fabric that appears to be aged, eroded and weathered.

Bold branding, including heat-fused patches and rubberized logo buttons and patches, is paired with polished hardware.
