Prepare for louder, fancier and more ornate embroidered denim for Spring ’17.

After analyzing Spring ’17 runway collections, trend forecasting firm Edited reported that embroidered and patched denim will be one of the biggest trends for spring.

Embroidered denim has been on the rise ever since Gucci honed in on lavish embroidery in 2014. Edited said embroidered denim is an ideal trend for retailers to emulate, citing Summer ’16 commercial success stories like Zara’s patch denim jacket, Topshop’s floral jeans and Marc Jacobs’ shrunken moto jacket.

According to Edited, there have been more than 2,500 embroidered denim items added online in the last six months. More than one-third of these items were added to the luxury or premium market with Marc Jacobs and Roberto Cavalli as examples.

Silhouettes will likely turn toward looser and wider fits like oversized boxy jackets and straight leg jeans. Edited also point out that it wasn’t jeans that were most successful in capturing the embroidery trend, but rather skirts (priced at $30-$40) and jackets ($50-$60) performed best in retail.
