White jeans are probably the garment most likely to inspire fear in wearers, however, Old Navy is changing the status quo with a new denim technology called Stay-White that keeps fabric stain-free.

The Stay White technology premiered in the brand’s Rockstar skinny style, retailing for $44.94.

Melissa Morrin, Old Navy’s senior designer for women’s denim, told Refinery29 that after the jeans are sewn from the brand’s classic, soft denims, “The pairs are then treated with a stain-resistant wash, which makes liquids roll off the surface, magically, making the jeans perform well with many of your everyday liquid spills like coffee, juice, and wine; and combat more difficult stains after one wash,” she said.

A big concern for the team during the design process was ensuring that this new fabrication didn’t affect the stretch customers know and expect, Morrin told Refinery29.

She also said that the pants should be washed inside-out in cold water and dried with low heat. The technology will perform well through 20 wash cycles, she explained, though the stain-resisting technology allows for more wears between washes.
