Twin Dragon announced ecological improvements to their Mexican mills and Asian facilities, by introducing Liquid Indigo and Eco-Finishing.
“Finally, after three years of development, we are proud to introduce pre-reduced Liquid Indigo and Eco-Finishing, which when used together, has achieved a 85 percent reduction in environmentally hazardous chemical discharge, which could become the new gold standard in the denim textile industry,” said Twin Dragon CEO Dominic Poon.
Eco-Finishing at Twin Dragon’s Mexican mill alone would save up to 40 million gallons of water, using 95 percent less. Adding to the new technology’s benefits, using Liquid Indigo saves around 700,000 lbs. of Sodium Hydrosulphite, cutting back on possible environmental contamination by 57 percent compared to the current powder indigo standard, according to Twin Dragon.
Poon also urged that with the implementation of Liquid Indigo and Eco-Finishing, the mill drastically cuts back on chemical and water usage compared to current dyeing and finishing standards at the mill level. The new techniques also claim to stabilize the shade of indigo, increase colorfastness in both dry and wet crocking and gives denim a sort of 3D appearance.
“This new Eco-Denim will help the denim laundry house save water, minimize chemical usage and speed up garment processing. It’s the best scenario for both our mills and garment manufacturers,” said Poon.
