Urban Outfitters’ Iets Frans Brand Channels the ’90s

Before gorpcore was a hashtag, ’90s pop groups from TLC to NSYNC were storming the zeitgeist in color-splashed technical outdoor gear. 

Urban Outfitters-owned brand Iets Frans revives the look with a new Spring 2023 collection based on nylon outerwear, cargo pockets and color-coordinating ensembles. 

Launched in the U.K. in 2017, the men’s and women’s label has become known for its European-inspired streetwear and sportswear with a nostalgic twist. Iets Frans, which means “something French” in Dutch, offers modern athleisure pieces and elevated sportswear basics in fresh silhouettes and technical fabrications.

The new line combines a vintage hiking aesthetic with the ’90s styles that are trending with Gen Z. Pastel blue and lavender offset shades of blue-green, mustard and gray.  

Lightweight nylon is a key fabrication in the transitional collection. Nylon pieces span low-rise ruched pants, joggers, cargo shorts, a half-zip dress and a half-zip jacket. Details like bungee cords and mesh add a technical vibe. 

Iets Frans’ spring aesthetic aligns with Trendalytics’ forecast for 2023. The data analytics firm named “Utility Tech” as a key aesthetic for the new year, describing it as sartorial pieces outfitted with cargo pockets, belts, modular accessories and hardware.

Coordinating tank tops, hoodies, tees, sunglasses and crossbody bags round out the Iets Frans collection. 

The collection is available now in Urban Outfitters stores and online. Retail prices are $25-$140.
