Rivet, the global media authority serving the international denim industry, today reveals the 2020 Rivet 50, an annual index of the most influential leaders in advancing the worldwide business of making and marketing denim. This year, Rivet 50 was compiled by nominations and votes submitted by peers across the denim industry. More than 12,000 votes cast online determined the international honorees culled from five categories: executive, designer, retailer, influencer and supply chain.
The 2020 Rivet 50 features diverse players in the denim business, spanning sustainable fashion designers, independent retailers, Made in USA entrepreneurs and philanthropic business leaders. The list includes: Katy Al-Rubeyi, Story Mfg. co-founder; James Bartle, Outland Denim founder and CEO; Amy Leverton, Denim Dudes founder; designer Maurice Malone; Ida Peterson, Browns buying director; Tony Tonnaer, founder and CEO of Kings of Indigo; Renzo Rosso, OTB Group founder and president, and more.
“Though we remain socially distant, we hope the launch of the 2020 Rivet 50 offers the denim industry the opportunity to come together, spark online conversations and create the future,” said Angela Velasquez, Rivet executive editor.
Now in its third year, Rivet 50 serves a barometer for the denim industry, a representation of how far the sector’s ongoing evolution has come in terms of in innovation, sustainability and creativity. This year, however, the list is especially meaningful as many of the honorees are taking important measures to support critical coronavirus relief efforts by donating product and funds, and rapidly pivoting operations to manufacture essential PPE.
“Despite the troubles our industry is facing this year, the denim community continues to innovate and keep its promises to sustainability during these challenging times,” said Edward Hertzman, founder and president of Sourcing Journal, which operates Rivet. “Colleagues, peers and even competitors come together each year for the Rivet 50 to honor those individuals leading the industry forward during this transformative time. The Rivet 50 is a celebration and acknowledgment that not only Rivet awards, but also that the collective industry awards to its deserving peers.
