Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer in the U.S., is around the corner, but celebrity street style is heating up.
Lizzo, Chrissy Teigen and Kacey Musgraves are among the high-profile names to step out in high-waisted cutoff shorts this summer—each tweaking the staple to suit their personal style.
Musgraves encapsulated the escapist “Coconut Girl” trend by pairing her shorts with a cropped tank top and an aloha shirt. Teigen dressed up her jean shorts with a sheer red blouse and matching square-toe stiletto sandals. Lizzo mixed her fringe jean shirts with a bodysuit that references lyrics from her new song “Rumors” with Cardi B.
Model Alessandra Ambrosio dressed up her vintage-looking denim shorts with a tangerine-hued blazer. The tailored item was a popular companion piece to denim this summer, despite the hot temperatures. Bella Hadid wore an oversized blazer and cutout top with Givenchy monogram jeans while out in Paris, while Teigen wore a checkered option with wide-leg jeans and a Calvin Klein sports bra in New York.
Justin Bieber embraced baggy and slouchy fits, often balancing the bottoms with boxy flannel tops or a teddy bear coat, which GQ described as “the deep summer fur coat.”
Dua Lipa sported low-rise baggy jeans with sneakers and a corset-style top and Y2K mini bag. Italian influencer Chiara Ferragni paired ripped wide-leg jeans with a Celine cropped top.
Even Boomer director Steven Spielberg co-signed the loose fit trend with a pair of relaxed light wash Wrangler jeans.
Skinny jeans still have their fans, however. John Legend paired ripped white skinny jeans with a tropical floral shirt and white sneakers. And Hilary Duff and Sharon Stone both nailed the classic summer look of blue jeans and a lightweight blouse.
