Copenhagen Fashion Week Shows Off City’s Eclectic Street Style

Copenhagen designers are known for their comfort-focused, minimalistic Nordic designs. However, the street style stars that turned out last week for Copenhagen Fashion Week showed how the city is flirting with streetwear and denim trends.

Fashionistas ironically paired their flowing frocks, smock dresses and printed slip dresses with “it” items like Dior’s saddle bag (done up in patchwork denim), tiny glasses and chunky “Dad” sneakers. Fanny packs cinched dresses and Burberry check blazers, while bucket hats made a play for straw hats’ place as bloggers’ chapeau of choice.

The jean jacket and bike short combo smacked of Copenhagen cool, and the athletic bottom was a practical choice for the bike-friendly city. Bermuda jean shorts were worn slim and close to the body for similar effect.

Track pants were dressed up with block heel mule sandals. Patchwork jeans and white tees made a classic combo, but the look was punctuated with mismatched white and red boots. Kitten heels with crystal buckles added a glam look to frayed jeans.

Wider jean silhouettes were balanced with cropped tops and old-school sneakers, and sequin-covered denim chaps made an appearance, too.

Contemporary takes on cowboy boots (think exotic leathers in unnatural colors) grounded dresses, while the designer bag—be it a Chanel backpack or Louis Vuitton shoulder bag—showed up in nearly every look.
