#TBT: Proof That Thomas Stege Bojer Wore Pre-Washed Jeans at Least Once

Throwback photos stir up laughs, memories and—for denim heads—a wealth of vintage denim inspiration. This weekly column on Rivet asks individuals in the denim industry to take a look back and reminisce about a denim moment in time captured on film.

This week, denim storyteller, Rivet 50 member and raw denim fanatic, Thomas Stege Bojer reflects on an early ’90s photo where he’s dressed head to toe in his favorite fabric.

As the founder of Denimhunters, co-author of Blue Blooded and co-host of The Denim and Boots Podcast, it’s no surprise that Bojer’s love of denim stretches decades. He started as a sales advisor at a number of different retailers before pivoting to marketing and eventually publishing a book on his extensive denim research. In 2011, he launched Denimhunters, a hub for enthusiasts and professionals who want to learn more about denim.

This is a photo from 1992 when my brother (right) and I (left) were 4 and 6, respectively. I usually tell people that I got into denim in my late teens, but this picture of two redheaded denim dudes in Canadian tuxedos clearly shows that I’ve been rocking denim much longer than that.

It’s also evidence that I did at one point wear pre-washed denim! At least mine aren’t horrifically bleached like the ’80s design my brother is wearing. He does have the coolest pose, though. Maybe I should have my children recreate the picture in four years’ time when they’re that same age.
