This Technology Slashed Boyish Jeans Returns by More than 30%

Consumers and retailers are privy to the challenges in buying and selling jeans. Sizes vary between brands, and fabric constructions can affect how jeans will fit and hug parts of the body.

MySize, a measurement app that provides accurate sizing recommendations based on a range of information, aims to take the guesswork out of buying jeans with two enhanced features.

Users can now receive their size recommendation without having to download the application by easily entering their gender, height and weight. This data is then analyzed by MySize’s proprietary machine learning database in order to calculate the appropriate size.

The second feature of the widget is guest mode, which allows guest users to enter their information and receive a size recommendation. The widget can then follow the user across the site and predict a size on different products.

MySize tested the new features with Los Angeles-based sustainable denim brand Boyish Jeans over a two-month period. According to the Boyish Jeans case study, during this period user engagement “increased dramatically, with more than 75 percent of the size recommendations coming from guest users.” The denim brand also reported that during the same period customer returns decreased approximately 31 percent after implementing the MySizeID widget on their website.

“This further validates our conviction that our measurement solution bolsters buying confidence in customers by quickly generating their ideal size, which further increases brand loyalty and conversion rates for the retailer while reducing returns,” MySize CEO Ronen Luzon said. “Based on customer engagement, our technology allows retailers to optimize their customer sizing data and maintain appropriate inventory levels on relevant items. We look forward to progressing our relationship with Boyish Jeans.”

The test also found an increase in users downloading the MySize app. While the widget produces accurate results, the app fine-tunes these measurements using proprietary measuring technology without taking photos.

The tool not only benefits brands in the sense that they’re ultimately able to reduce returns, but they’re also better able to plan inventory—one of the biggest hurdles to providing customers with a successful in-store experience, according to a recent report from CB4.

MySize was founded in 2014 and currently works with brands such as Levi’s, American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, H&M, Lucky Brand and more.
