Isko Unveils Its Largest Sustainable Fabric Collection to Date

Join the U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol webinar on July 15 at 11 am ET to learn about the findings of a COVID-19 and sustainability survey and how the protocol aids better transparency and reporting.

As the largest premium denim ingredient brand in the world, with a yearly capacity of 250 million meters, Turkish denim mill Isko understands its role in driving denim’s path toward greater sustainability.

The mill introduced its largest Earth Fit collection to date in New York City Thursday. The collection, which launched two years ago with 12 articles, has grown to 49 with each fabric made with lower impact and alternative raw material options like organic cotton, pre-consumer recycled cotton and post-consumer recycled polyester from PET bottles.

The Earth Fit collection includes sustainable articles from all of Isko’s leading fabric groups, including its body-shaping Blueskin, comfort stretch Reform, activewear Arquas and industry-changing Jeggings categories.

Earth Fit is part of Isko’s Responsible Innovation category, which has been a key focus for Isko as it works toward developing an “integrated field-to-fabric approach in every step of the value chain.” The mill has taken steps to reduce its water, energy and chemical usage by adopting finishing technologies that minimize water consumption, developing fabric technology that require zero chemical softners and reusing heat and steam generated during the production cycle.

“There’s a lot of talk and a lot of things going on in the industry right now,” said Sonny Puryear, Isko marketing and business development manager. “We hear these words all the time, like sustainable, recycled, renewable…and it only makes sense, that being a leader in innovation, we would have a category called Responsible Innovation.”

The mill is the first denim manufacturer in the world to obtain pre-certified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the Life Cycle Assessment (LCAs) of all its 25,000-plus denim fabrics, meaning Isko is transparent about the environmental impacts of all of the fabrics in the collection. These EPDs are being used to create independently developed Product Category Rules (PCRs), which will help form a way, for the first time ever, to have standardized assessments for denim across the industry, the company said.

Isko is also the first and only denim mill in the world awarded with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and EU Ecolabel for all Isko Earth Fit articles.
