American Eagle Outfitters partnered with Make It Right to recycle denim into UltraTouch Denim Insulation and other building materials for affordable homes. The drive began April 11, allowing customers to bring old denim into any of American Eagle’s 823 stores in the U.S. and Canada for a 20 percent discount on a pair of new jeans.

The Environmental Protection Agency has shown that more than 24 billion pounds of unwanted textiles collect in landfills annually. In response, last January, American Eagle partnered with I:Collect USA, a textiles recycling provider, to begin collecting clothing and shoes for reuse and recycling.

Helga Ying, American Eagle Outfitters vice president of external engagement & social responsibility, said, “This partnership underscores our commitment to eliminate waste and preserve vital resources, while enabling our customers to become involved in our sustainability efforts and to truly close the loop on the textile waste cycle.”
